ISSUP National Chapters Meeting in Latin America during the 6th Freemind International Congress

The 6th Freemind International Congress provided its participants with much information of important and relevant content, based on scientific evidence. There were 40 national speakers and 10 international speakers, 20 hours of international training, 30 hours of lectures, 25 hours of thematic panels and 12 hours of playful activities.

In addition, the Freemind Congress hosted important meetings, such as the Latin American National Chapters Meeting. This meeting was led by the National Chapter of Brazil at ISSUP, through its General Coordinator - Paulo Martelli.

On November 10th the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) formally launched the ISSUP UAE National Chapter, becoming the 14th country worldwide to establish a national forum for treatment, prevention and recovery support professionals. Based on the plan of the Informal Committee (Ad-Hoc Committee), the establishment of ISSUP INDONESIA will be inaugurated and launched in Jakarta in May 2020, after forming and establishing an Official Board of the organization according to the strategic programs and activities in the short, medium and long term in February 2020.

Preparatory Meeting for the ISSUP Uganda Chapter Interim Committee

A preparatory meeting was held on 29th November 2019 at UYDEL office and they discussed about recruitment of members, updating of Uganda ISSUP website, the work plan for 2020, Launch of the ISSUP Chapter in April 2020 and future plans. The meeting also agreed to hold an initial meeting with identified members on 12th of December 2019 to get more input from members on the best way to run the ISSUP Chapter.

New membership levels

We have decided to make a slight change to our membership levels. We hope that this will allow us to recognise better the different ways professionals are involved in the field, whilst at the same time being inclusive and supporting those who wish to become more informed about substance use prevention, treatment and recovery support.

What the changes will look like:

  • All standard members will automatically become regular members
  • Advanced members will be contacted in the coming weeks and asked to select between professional and drug demand reduction professional membership

‪Just one day after its official launch, ISSUP Mexico in collaboration with ISSUP Global and CICAD held a prevention panel for drug demand reduction professionals at Centros de Integración Juvenil - CIJ’s main office in Mexico City.

At the end of October ISSUP staff attended the third Lisbon Addictions Conference at the Lisbon Congress Center. Over 1,000 participants from around the world came together to learn about and explore challenges relating to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, the internet and other addictive behaviours.
