Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs

Previous studies have shown that when students perceive their parents set strict limits on underage drinking, they tend to consume less alcohol. However, the best ways to communicate these limits effectively remain unclear. To explore this, a recent study examined the potential impact of hypothetical text messages focused on drinking limits on students' estimated alcohol consumption.

The study involved 253 undergraduate students who participated in an online survey. They were asked to imagine a scenario where they planned to attend a night event that involved drinking. Each participant was...

Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs

A study was conducted to examine how patterns of alcohol and cannabis use are associated with bystander intervention in situations involving the risk of sexual and relationship violence among college students. Researchers aimed to explore whether students' substance use influenced their awareness of risky situations (referred to as bystander opportunities) and their likelihood of taking action (bystander behaviors). Two key hypotheses guided this investigation: the first being that the frequency of bystander opportunities would vary depending on the students’ patterns of alcohol and cannabis...

Discuss the program to empower family organizations to prevent environmental pollution and promote the right to prevention

Charlene Schmidt - 24 August 2024

Family involvement is an important protective factor in childhood and adolescence, helping to prevent risky behaviors such as substance abuse and addiction. The FERYA program demonstrates the need to promote the role of families and communities in preventing negative environmental impacts. This is similar to how online communities, such as the Geometry Dash Scratch community, can positively impact by creating a supportive environment and encouraging healthy habits. Through collaboration and proactive intervention, families and communities can contribute to the health and well-being of young...

Family involvement has proven to be a protective factor in childhood and adolescence, acting as a preventive barrier against risky behaviours, such as substance abuse and addiction, among minors and youth. Family- and community-based intervention strategies for environmental prevention have been deemed effective; however, empirical data is scarce. The study aims to provide a conceptualised framework for the FERYA program (Networked and Active Families), a bottom-up environmental prevention program running in Spain since 2012 (known as EPOPS — Empowering Parents Organizations to Prevent...
