ISSUP Mexico Concludes “Engaging Youth” Course delivered by the OAS/CICAD

ISSUP Mexico continues to advance its strategic agenda with a strong focus on empowering youth leaders in high-risk communities. This commitment was recently reinforced through the successful completion of the “Engaging Youth” training course, delivered in collaboration with OAS/CICAD.

A cohort of 30 young leaders from Mexico has now successfully completed the programme, marking a significant milestone in strengthening youth-led efforts. Through this initiative, participants have been equipped with the knowledge and tools to act as agents of change, working to reduce violence, substance use, and address the risks of youth involvement in organised crime.

As the first country to implement the newly enhanced OAS/CICAD curriculum on youth engagement, ISSUP Mexico has demonstrated national leadership in adapting evidence-informed approaches to local contexts.

Throughout the course, participants designed community-based intervention programmes tailored to the specific needs of their high-risk environments.

These efforts have been supported by ongoing technical guidance from OAS/CICAD, alongside dedicated mentorship from ISSUP Mexico experts to support the full cycle of programme development, from design and implementation to evaluation, ensuring continuity and real-world impact.

This achievement highlights the critical role of youth engagement in substance use and drug relates issues and reinforces ISSUP Mexico’s commitment to building safer, more resilient communities through science-informed and collaborative approaches.
