Association of Cannabis Use in Adolescence and Risk of Depression, Anxiety, and Suicidality in Young Adulthood

A total of 11 articles met the inclusion criteria for the metaanalysis: 7 for depression, 3 for anxiety, for suicidal ideation, and 3 for suicide attempts. To estimate the extent to which cannabis use during adolescence was associated with increased odds of developing depression in young adulthood, they pooled results from 7 studies.The pooled OR for depression during young adulthood among cannabis users compared with nonusers was 1.37. La Organización Panamericana de la Salud. (2018). en su reporte sobre la carga de los trastornos mentales en la Región de las Américas, señala que del 19% de Trastornos Mentales, Neurológicos y Suicidio de los Años de Vida Ajustados en función de la Discapacidad, los Trastornos debidos al consumo de sustancias corresponden al 1,46% y los Trastornos debidos al consumo de alcohol al 0,80%. Asimismo, del 34% de los Años Perdidos por Discapacidad, los Trastornos debidos al consumo de sustancias corresponden al 1,84% y los Trastornos debidos al consumo de alcohol al 0,94%.

Disruption to Mental Health Services Caused by COVID-19

A recent World Health Organisation (WHO) survey has found that 93% of countries worldwide have experienced significant disruption to mental health services.

With a rise in demand for these services, these worring findings suggest there is an urgent need for for increased mental health investments in the wake of COVID-19.

The survey, which was conducted from June to August 2020, included data from 130 countries across WHO’s six regions.
