NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, represents the professional interests of more than 100,000 addiction counselors, educators and other addiction-focused health care professionals in the United States, Canada and abroad. Approximately 80% of those with co-occurring disorders have screened positive for lifetime exposure to traumatic brain injury (TBI). Many counselors are uncomfortable with the complex neurological sequelae that can serve as a complicating factor in treatment. In this session, we will explore the basics of TBI, including the relationship between TBI and substance use disorder (SUD).
