Shared by Edie - 24 November 2021

News

Every two years, the World Health Organization (WHO) publishes its Model List of Essential Medicines (EML), a collection of medicines considered essential by WHO experts.

Bupropion and varenicline are medicines that work in a different way from nicotine replacement. The new medicines reduce cravings for nicotine without supplying a...

University of Bristol

This is a study, led by the University of Bristol, and published in Addiction Journal. It was funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), the research partner of the NHS, public health and social care.

The most effective tobacco cessation pharmacotherapies are combination therapies, particularly varenicline and nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) combined. Varenicline, bupropion, and NRT are recommended as first line treatments to stop smoking by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

The researchers identified 363 trials for effectiveness and 355 for...

The global data indicates that the age of starting tobacco usage is decreasing rapidly. This not only has been causing many serious health consequences but is also increasing a lot of social issues. On the other hand, early use shows a high risk of leading to the use of other substances such as heroin in adulthood. Therefore, prevention and early intervention in this population are very crucial. In order to contribute to promoting the youth tobacco use prevention program in the near future in Vietnam, VHATTC organizes an online session on "Preventing Tobacco Use Among Youth: Evidence-Based Interventions".

During the past decade, heated aerosolized nicotine delivery systems (HANDS) —mainly e-cigarettes—have surpassed nicotine replacement therapy as the most utilized aids for stopping smoking in England.

It is therefore important to explore how the number of people using different device types and nicotine concentrations is changing, alongside a regulatory environment that may incentivize or discourage use of certain products. This study examined trends in the use of different products including:

  • e-cigarette device types,
  • heated tobacco products (HTPs)
