The Ukraine Fogarty Research Training Workshop took place on March 26-28, 2026, at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Ukraine. This dynamic event brought together trainees and faculty from NIH Fogarty International Center training programs focused on HIV, TB, substance use and mental health research, global health, and bioethics.
The workshop convened participants from three D43 training programs:
- SUNY Downstate–Ukraine HIV Research Training Program
PIs: Jack Dehovitz & Tetiana Kiriazova
Grant: D43TW012491 - Loyola–Ukrainian Catholic University International Bioethics Research Training Program
PI: Emily E. Anderson
Grant: D43TW011506 - Brown University – Building Capacity in HIV/TB and Mental Health in Ukraine’s Humanitarian Crisis (NEZLAMNI Program)
PIs: Adam C. Levine & Timothy Flanigan
Grant: D43TW012768
Over three days, participants engaged in vibrant discussions, shared research, and built professional connections. The workshop fostered collaboration across disciplines and institutions, strengthening a growing network of researchers and professionals dedicated to addressing pressing health challenges in Ukraine.
More information about the workshop's agenda and available resources can be found on the website.
Importantly, the momentum continues: these training programs will offer ongoing opportunities for early-career Ukrainian professionals, including short courses, exchange programs, and advanced research training.
