In response to evolving drug trends, new digital environments and cross-sectoral threats, the role supports the EUDA’s mandate to address drug-related challenges through integrated prevention strategies that include public safety and crime prevention dimensions. A Research Assistant I position is currently available in Dr. Kent Kiehl’s laboratory at The Mind Research Network in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Duties include working with a research team on several grant funded studies grant-funded studies designed to evaluate neurobehavioral characteristics of incarcerated criminal offenders with antisocial (e.g., psychopathic) traits, substance use disorders, and/or past traumatic events (including traumatic brain injury). Our studies also investigate the impact of treatment (e.g., mindfulness, cognitive skills training) as well long-term outcomes post-release from incarceration. The RAI will assist with recruiting, scheduling, and screening study participants, file scanning, data entry, and various data management projects (coding, scoring, etc). Depending on interests and experience, training may also be provided in in the administration and scoring of clinical interviews and neuropsychological tests, and/or collecting/analyzing brain imaging (e.g., functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)) data. All candidates should possess strong interest in research with incarcerated populations.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to contribute to a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded Randomised Controlled Trial in the area of managing drug dependence. The trial is being led by Professor Catriona Matheson at the Centre for Healthcare and Community Research (CHeCR) at the University of Stirling, in close collaboration with The Centre for Healthcare Randomised Trials (CHaRT), University of Aberdeen. This project aims to reduce the use of high-risk street benzodiazepines, which contribute to drug related deaths in people who are also enrolled in Opiate Agonist Treatment (OAT) e.g. methadone. The trial includes at least six sites across Scotland and England with a built-in pilot study, process evaluation and toxicology surveillance study. The research assistant will work closely with the trial’s senior researcher across the needs of the study, with a particular focus on the toxicology study including drug surveillance and scanning and supporting project meetings. They will also contribute to literature reviewing, quantitative data analysis, ongoing communication, report writing and dissemination of outputs. The University of New Mexico's Project ECHO is looking for a Senior Program Manager to join our ECHO Africa team based in Nairobi, Kenya. This position will play a key role in working with senior Ministry of Health officials, academic partners, the World Health Organization, Africa CDC, and local, regional and international non-governmental organizations in Africa to implement the ECHO virtual, case-based learning approach to support their health priorities. The objective of the ECHO Africa Senior Program Manager position is to work with senior level officials to design, implement and evaluate the ECHO learning approach as a digital learning tool to build capacity and address critical health priorities. The study aims to understand the social worlds of drinking and the potential for sober curiosity in four 4 heavy drinking ‘case-study’ groups: 1) male construction workers, 2) hospitality sector workers, 3) LGBTQ+ women and 4) tertiary education students (university and TAFE) living in regional areas. This Research Fellow position at Torrens University will primarily be responsible for all stages of the study for ‘male construction workers’ and ‘LGBTQ+ women’ but will also be required to contribute to the other two case-study groups when required.

The research fellow will be part of a research team which includes Chief Investigators, Partner Investigators, other funded researchers and PhD students.  The study will work out ways to support the following groups of midlife women to reduce their alcohol consumption (and their breast cancer risk): 1) women living in regional areas of Australia; 2) LGBTQ+ women; 3) women living in poverty; and 4) women working in the corporate sector. This is a 3-stage study: Stage 1 will include an ethnography, netnography, photo elicitation, social media analysis and qualitative interviews; Stage 2 will include deliberative dialogue groups to identify ‘systems level’ drivers of alcohol consumption; Stage 3 will co-develop and implement interventions aimed at increasing critical consciousness and hope for the case-study groups. We are seeking two full time research assistants on fixed-term contracts until 31/10/2029 with the NIHR Mental Health Research Groups-funded Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Research at the University of Hull. The successful candidates will become part of a larger interdisciplinary team of researchers investigating addiction and mental health conditions. Under the leadership of Professor Thomas Phillips, Professor of Nursing in Addiction and Professor Judith Cohen, Hull Health Trials Unit, the research team has secured a five-year award, supported by our partners at the University of York and King’s College London, to develop addiction and mental health research based at the University of Hull. The research targets national priorities and the mental health needs of our population with the aim of improving access to care and treatment that works. Working closely with health and social care providers as well as patients and the public, we have developed an ambitious programme of research across three themes:

Theme 1: Improving care pathways and outcomes for young people with substance use and mental health problems

Theme 2: Improving care pathways for adults with substance use disorder and mental health problems presenting to places of safety and emergency departments

Theme 3: Defining the needs of adults with alcohol-related cognitive impairment 

The posts will provide flexible support across the themes, with an initial focus on themes 2 and 3. The roles will be varied and will include supporting systematic and scoping reviews, assisting with the development of research protocols and study documents and seeking regulatory approvals, and supporting the delivery of research projects through the recruitment of participants and collection of data.

We are seeking exceptional graduates with experience of literature reviews, data collection and analysis and drafting research reports. The successful candidates will join a thriving community of researchers examining the impact of addiction and mental health problems on health, social care and criminal justice settings. The research assistants will support the research fellows, co-investigators and patient and public contributors to collate the evidence base and assist in the development and delivery of research projects.

The posts will be based in the award winning Allam Medical Building, University of Hull. The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Research is part of the thriving academic community within the Faculty of Health Sciences including postgraduates studying PhDs. The research team provides outstanding methodological expertise in high-quality clinical and applied health research.

The ideal candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, knowledge and skills in relation to conducting literature reviews, experience in delivering clinical research, and experience engaging with vulnerable people in clinical or research settings.

This post is for 1.0 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist working within the Islington Better Lives Drug and Alcohol Service and has arisen from current postholders reducing their sessions and additional investment in the service from OHID.

The post is available from 1st October 2025 and is being offered as a substantive post pending approval by The Royal College of Psychiatrists.

The post-holder will be part of the multidisciplinary team which includes both statutory and voluntary sector roles and provides holistic care to patients. The service is primarily community based and is delivered from 3 community sites. The post holder will work across these sites with 1.3 other substantive Consultant Psychiatrists, locally employed GPs, core trainee and specialty doctor.

Main duties of the job

This is a full time Substantive position for 10 Programmed Activities: 7.5 Direct Clinical Care and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities.
The medical team is currently led by two part time Consultant Psychiatrists, who both cover the borough across all three sites. There is a part time GP with a special interest in substance misuse based at SSR one day a week. There is a core psychiatry trainee based predominately at SSR across the week with some offsite training commitments. There is another core trainee based at GIR who does a split post with the Islington Psychotherapy service and other off site training commitments.
The post holder will work with the medical team to ensure rapid access to treatment and can expect to offer 2-3 assessments/follow ups per clinic depending on demand. There is plenty of opportunity for service development in this dynamic, innovative service.
The primary record-keeping system for the service is RiO, general electronic patient record system of the Trust. Read only access to EMIS is available to senior clinicians to aid communication and integration with other primary care services.  

The post-holder will be provided with appropriate technology (laptop, mobile) in order to facilitate agile working across multiple sites. The team has office space at the Margarete Centre with dedicated admin support.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Housing Inclusion Service for a committed, enthusiastic individual who wants to make a real difference to the lives of some of our most vulnerable residents who are experiencing complex needs and are rough sleeping in the borough.

Reporting to the Rough Sleeping Coordinator, the successful applicant will work with a targeted group of clients who have no recourse to public funds, and who also have alcohol or substance misuse dependency, often alongside other complex needs. As a Housing Engagement worker, you will support these clients to access immigration advice, specialist treatment agencies and health providers, as well relevant Housing services.

You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to provide a holistic, targeted and effective programme of support which focuses on enabling people to secure and sustain settled accommodation.
