Attendees at the African Union Consultation for Drug Demand Reduction in Arusha, Tanzania

The African Union Commission (AUC) has held an annual continental consultation for Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) since 2015.  AUC member states are each represented by their respective DDR national focal points, allowing member states an opportunity to present national DDR activities in a peer-review platform that also allows engagement with invited subject matter experts.  This year’s consultation was held in Arusha, Tanzania from 10-13 December 2024, and included Traditional Leaders from Southern Africa. Глобальное событие 2024 года пройдет в Салониках, Греция, с 24 по 28 июня 2024 года. Мероприятие организовано ISSUP и ISSUP Greece, INL, Центрами по профилактике зависимостей, содействию психосоциальному здоровью SEIRIOS и ICUDDR.  Мероприятие пройдет в историческом центре города Салоники, на территории «Международного выставочного и конгресс-центра TIF-HELEXPO» и окружающих его конференц-залах в музеях и социальных учреждениях.

Substance use can affect workers of all ages; therefore, the workplace may play a vital role in preventing substance abuse throughout their careers. In fact, the workplace has a potential role in promoting the prevention and reducing the substance related problems. Opioid use disorder (OUD) and opioid overdose deaths (OODs) are prevalent among US workers, but work-related factors have not received adequate attention as either risk factors or opportunities for OOD prevention. Higher prevalence of OOD in those with heavy physical jobs, more precarious work, and limited health care benefits suggest work environment and organizational factors may predispose workers to the development of OUD.
