The prevalence of cannabis use and cannabis use disorder (CUD) is increasing in all age groups, in parallel with increasing product potency and public acceptance of use. Between 2021 and 2024, past-month cannabis use among people ages 12 and older increased from 37.0 million people to 44.3 million people.

Based on 📖SAMHSA’s recently released Advisory, Addressing Cannabis Use Disorder in Primary Care Settings—A Lifespan Approach, this webinar provides healthcare professionals with practical, evidence-informed guidance on cannabis use and CUD across the lifespan.

Join Dr. Alan J. Budney, a clinical psychologist and Professor at Dartmouth’s Center for Technology and Behavioral Health, as he discusses key considerations for adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, during pregnancy, and older adulthood. Dr. Budney will also share research-informed approaches to—

• Integrate screening, brief intervention, and patient education within primary and acute care visits

• Identify problematic cannabis use patterns using age-appropriate screening

• Apply a lifespan framework to distinguish cannabis-related risks and treatment needs, including during pregnancy

• Recognize drivers of rising cannabis use disorder, including increased potency and reduced perceived harm

• Refer patients, including those with co‑occurring conditions, to evidence‑based treatment

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration sponsors this webinar.
