Legleye, S., Bricard, D., & Khlat, M. (2023). Roles of parental smoking and family structure for the explanation of socio-economic inequalities in adolescent smoking. Addiction, 118(1), 149-159.

Abstract

Background and aims

Among European countries, France is particularly concerned by adolescent tobacco smoking, especially in disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds (SES). We measured the respective contributions of parental smoking and family living arrangements to social disparities in smoking during adolescence.

A total of 13 314 adolescents answered a pen-and-paper questionnaire about their own tobacco consumption and the smoking of their parents.

Findings

Adolescents living within very privileged and privileged SES were significantly less likely to report daily tobacco...

Subst Abuse Treat Prev Policy 17, 66 (2022). https://doi.org/10.1186/s13011-022-00494-y

Background

Novel public health interventions are needed to address the toxic drug supply and meet the needs of people who use drugs amidst the overdose crisis. Safer supply – low-barrier distribution of pharmaceutical grade substances – has been implemented in some jurisdictions to provide safer alternatives to the unregulated drug supply, yet no studies to date have explored professional stakeholder perspectives on this approach.

Methods

We used purposive sampling to recruit professional stakeholders (n = 17) from four locations in British Columbia, Ontario, and Nova Scotia, including...

Contingency management (CM) is a psychological treatment based on operant conditioning. It consists of providing incentives in exchange for achieving a target behaviour such as abstinence or other treatmentrelated variables (e.g. session attendance, adherence to medication). The objective of this article was to introduce the rationale of CM for substance use and, more specifically, for smoking cessation. A growing body of empirical literature supports CM as an effective treatment for quitting smoking both in the general population and among other hard-to-treat smokers (e.g. pregnant women or...
