Seaside Cottage School Program for Children

Angela Bekederemo - 2 February 2022

This was organized by ISSUP Nigeria, the Lagos State Chapter for the celebration of Children’s Day for the Nigerian Child, I was among the facilitators, the intervention focused on children at risk. The Seaside Cottage is in Bariga by the riverine of Lagos, which is notorious for drug use and culture. It is a common image to see adults smoking and taking drugs.

The intervention taught the children refusal and assertive skills to overcome the pressure to use substance; for the drug literacy, the ability for children to obtain information, understand and use the information to guide them in...

There is a scarcity of research on drug use patterns among HIV-positive young individuals in Sub-Saharan Africa (YLWH). To fill the gap, the following was set out:

  1. compare the prevalence of substance use, specifically alcohol and illicit drug use, among YLWH to their HIV-uninfected peers;
  2. look into the independent relationship between HIV infection status and substance use among these young people;
  3. look into the risk indicators for substance use among these young people.

Between November 2018 and September 2019, a cross-sectional study was conducted at the Kenyan coast recruiting 819...

Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction

The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) provided funding to Dr. Akwasi Owusu-Bempah and Dr. Scot Wortley from the University of Toronto to research youth interactions with the criminal justice system, including the nature and outcomes of those interactions.

The Cannabis Act marked an important step in the legalization and regulation of cannabis in Canada. One of the primary objectives of the Act is to protect youth and divert profits away from organized crime and illicit markets. To date, little is known about the effects of the Cannabis Act on young people’s contact with...

Dudas sobre prevencion en Latinoamerica.

Elias Perez - 26 October 2021
