Engaging Young People in Prevention Training

Earlier this month, ISSUP Argentina collaborated with SEDRONAR and OEA/CICAD in the delivery of a training on engaging young people in prevention. The training aimed to strengthen young people’s capacity to play an active role in preventing substance use and other risk behaviours, reducing youth involvement in gangs and criminal organisations, and becoming agents of change in their communities.

A total of 25 young people from Argentina successfully completed the training, strengthening their knowledge and developing practical tools to design and implement youth-led prevention initiatives.

As part of the experience, participants were invited to join the Inter-American Network of Young Leaders, expanding opportunities for exchange, collaboration and engagement with young people from across the region.

The opening ceremony was attended by Roberto Moro, Secretary of SEDRONAR, Dr Nicolás Poliansky, Director of ISSUP Argentina, Lorena Puchetti, Director of Prevention at SEDRONAR, Isabella Araujo, Programme Officer at OAS/CICAD, Bárbara Correa, ISSUP Regional Coordinator for National Chapters in Latin America, and Guido Prósperi, a young leader representing ISSUP Argentina and Latin America. The three trainers were Agostina Lumello, Tania Gordillo and Isabella Araujo.

The training reflects the commitment of ISSUP Argentina, SEDRONAR and OAS/CICAD to prevention that not only focuses on young people, but recognises them as active participants and essential partners in developing effective prevention responses.

Through initiatives such as this, the organisations seek to support a new generation of young leaders who can engage their peers, develop community-based projects and contribute to safer and more protective environments, including by preventing substance use and reducing young people’s involvement in risky activities such as gangs and criminal groups.

Congratulations to the 25 young people who completed the training and have now joined a growing regional network of young people committed to supporting their peers and communities!
