DRNS and Salvation Army Centre for Addiction Services and Research are delighted to host this event to share learning on the implementation of Planet Youth in Ireland. Emmet Major is coordinating the Planet Youth programme in the west of Ireland and will share his experiences of the programme, with implications for Scottish research, policy and practice.
Session overview
The purpose of this workshop is to provide education on substance use in the African American community. By participating in this workshop, participants will become educated on substance use and the stigma associated with seeking treatment in the African American community. Lastly, this workshop will discuss the lack of best practices and how to engage African Americans in substance use disorder treatment.
Recovery for families involves positive stress management, coping with change, and the availability of support. We will examine how learning to cope with manageable stress is critical to developing resilience. Communication and community collaboration will be highlighted as essential to family members building skills, creating biological resistance to adversity, and experiencing resilient outcomes.
The 16th World Congress on Public Health will take place 12th-17th October 2020 in Rome, Italy.
The theme of the Congress, Public Health for the Future of Humanity: Analysis, Advocacy, and Action, reflects the firm stance that the public health community have an obligation to respond to these new circumstances.
Although there have been thousands of published articles on FASD, there still remains limited research specifically on adolescents and adults with FASD. As individuals diagnosed with FASD continue to age, the “need to know” across a broad spectrum of areas continues to be critically important for identifying clinically relevant research questions and directions.
