ISSUP Bahamas Welcomes New Executive Director

ISSUP Bahamas would like to announce the resignation of Mr. Troy Clarke, who has served faithfully as the Executive Director since the establishment of the ISSUP Bahamas Chapter in 2022. Mr Clarke has been instrumental in leading the Chapter from its initiation, setting the foundation for growth, visibility, and strong collaboration both nationally and internationally.

UTC 21 Trauma-Informed Care Training

During September, history was made in Freeport, Grand Bahama, as 16 officers from the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s (RBPF) Domestic Violence Unit proudly graduated from the UTC 21 Trauma-Informed Care Training Programme.

UTC 6 & 7 Course Completed

We are delighted to announce the recent successful completion of UTC 6 (Case Management) and UTC 7 (Crisis Intervention for Addiction Professionals) as part of the ongoing Domestic Violence Certification Course. The training took place in Freeport, Grand Bahama during August 2025 with 16 participants attending. Sessions were facilitated by Troy E.

UTC 5 Domestic Violence Certification Series Update

Between July 14–18, 2025, The National LEAD Institute, in collaboration with the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the ISSUP Bahamas National Chapter, conducted the second of five modules in the Domestic Violence Certification Series. The module implemented was UTC 5: Intake, Screening, Assessment, Treatment Planning, and Documentation, adapted for Domestic Violence Facilitators and grounded in the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (DAP).

ISSUP Bahamas are pleased to announce their recent completion of the UTC 4: Basic Counselling Skills (first module) course for the newly launched Domestic Violence Certification Training initiative for the Royal Bahamas Police Force Domestic Violence Unit and key stakeholders.

ISSUP Bahamas Activities for 2025

The ISSUP Bahamas National Chapter has kicked off 2025 in style, with some UTC and SUD training already taking place earlier in the year. The Executive Team is delighted to share their planned activities for the remainder of the year, with a key focus on training the Bahamas drug demand reduction workforce. This includes running a second SUD training course and an additional Introduction to Evidence-Based Prevention (INEP Plus) course later this year.

A recent training, held from 7-9 April 2025, was held at the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) Training Room, and was hosted in collaboration with the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre (SRC) and the Bahamas Chapter of the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP).

UTC Training Begins in the Bahamas

We have marked the beginning of a transformative journey as we kicked off the first of five days of UTC 4 - Basic Counseling Skills Certification Training at Life Community Church.

This groundbreaking initiative, facilitated by The National LEAD Institute and ISSUP Bahamas National Chapter, brings together church parishioners and key public health stakeholders from the Public Hospitals Authority at Rand Memorial Hospital.
