Data global menunjukkan bahwa usia mulai penggunaan tembakau menurun dengan cepat. Ini tidak hanya telah menyebabkan banyak konsekuensi kesehatan yang serius tetapi juga meningkatkan banyak masalah sosial. Di sisi lain, penggunaan dini menunjukkan risiko tinggi mengarah pada penggunaan zat lain seperti heroin di masa dewasa. The Prevention Science Early Career Reviewer Program is an effort that aims to both mentor early-career researchers in prevention science and increases the pool of possible reviewers. We invite emerging prevention scientists to apply to serve a two-year term as mentored reviewers for the journal Prevention Science.

Candidates apply for the position, and as part of that application process, they identify and secure a commitment from a prevention science mentor to supervise their appointment to the review board for the two-year period.

Experiences of childhood trauma (abuse and neglect) are disproportionately higher in those with opioid use disorder (OUD). Childhood trauma may affect the reinforcing and rewarding properties of opioid drugs and responses to pain, potentially via developmental changes to the endogenous opioid system.
