The internship is located in the Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS), Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. Applicants have the possibility of being engaged for a period of six months, subject to the needs of the office and the availability of the candidates. The envisaged start date for the internships is January 2026. The internships are UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Interns will report to the Chief, at UNODC’s Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS). Intern will contribute to projects within the treatment, care and rehabilitation team of UNODC’s PTRS. The intern will support the team with daily responsibilities, depending on the individual’s background as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents;
- Assistance in drafting reports, presentations, web-, social media- and other PR materials;
- Assistance in utilising and researching the application of innovations such as digital tools including artificial intelligence (AI) for effective drug treatment, rehabilitation and care
- Research on drug use situation and on scientific evidence related to substance use treatment and care programmes and services;
- Assistance in the preparation of technical assistance, workshops, meetings, high-level events and conferences;
- Attending and summarising conferences and meetings;
- Assistances during conferences and meetings.
