The internship is located in the Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS), Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. Applicants have the possibility of being engaged for a period of six months, subject to the needs of the office and the availability of the candidates. The envisaged start date for the internships is January 2026. The internships are UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Interns will report to the Chief, at UNODC’s Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS). Intern will contribute to projects within the treatment, care and rehabilitation team of UNODC’s PTRS. The intern will support the team with daily responsibilities, depending on the individual’s background as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents;
• Assistance in drafting reports, presentations, web-, social media- and other PR materials;
• Assistance in utilising and researching the application of innovations such as digital tools including artificial intelligence (AI) for effective drug treatment, rehabilitation and care
• Research on drug use situation and on scientific evidence related to substance use treatment and care programmes and services;
• Assistance in the preparation of technical assistance, workshops, meetings, high-level events and conferences;
• Attending and summarising conferences and meetings;
• Assistances during conferences and meetings.

The Department of Psychology, within the Institute of Population Health, is looking for three exceptional early- / mid-career researchers to contribute to our research, impact and teaching activity. The applicants should have a strong record of internationally excellent publications, and research activity aligned to the research strengths of the Department including addiction, appetite and obesity, clinical and cognitive neuroscience (including pain), forensic, investigative and conflict psychology, language development and lifespan, health and wellbeing (see job description for priority areas). The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks: - Cary out a comprehensive review of the literature, both scientific (published in peer-reviewed journals) and grey (national reports and other accessible publications), and of available data from international, regional and national institutions or organizations, including from the annual report questionnaire;

• Develop an outline of the online segment of the WDR on drug demand and health consequences;
• Analyse available data and produce global, regional and national estimates on drug demand and health consequences;

UNODC’s flagship report, the World Drug Report (WDR) is an annual publication, which aims to improve the understanding of the world drug problem and to contribute towards fostering greater international cooperation for countering its effect on health, governance and security. The Report is made of a number of booklets and include an online segment. Each year the Report provides an overview of the world drug situation with regard to the illicit cultivation and production of drugs, as well as their trafficking and use; it also includes thematic chapters that highlight an area of interest from a research and policy perspective. The World Drug Report is produced by the Research and Trend Analysis Branch, with the Research and Knowledge Production Section in the lead and involvement of expert staff across the Branch and in other Branches/Divisions across UNODC. The purpose of the assignment is to produce an analysis of global and regional trends in drug demand and health consequences for the World Drug Report and contribute to its integration into the 2026 edition. This consultancy will be home-based. The consultant will work under the overall guidance of the Chief of the Research and Knowledge Production Section, and under the supervision of the Statistician on drugs in the Data, Analytics and Statistics Section, and in close collaboration with other colleagues from the Research and Trend Analysis Branch, Division of Policy Analysis (DPA). The output of the consultancy will aim at presenting the current situation and trends regarding drug use and health consequences both at the global and regional levels as well as contributing to analysis of the latest developments.

UTHealth Houston's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences' Center for Neurobehavioral Research on Addiction (CNRA) is looking to hire a research assistant to support studies dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of substance use disorders. Our team is dynamic and multidisciplinary, where you will get to work with experts from fields such as addiction psychiatry, psychology, medicine, counseling, nursing, pharmacy, and research.

Position Summary:

Under close direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support research projects.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Under close supervision, conducts research activities according to research protocol. Research activities may include some or all of the following: patient recruiting and screening, traditional laboratory experiments and activities, informatics, field interviewer recruiting, screening and training and/or animal laboratories. 
2. May maintain clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
3. Collects, evaluates, and interprets research data to provide needed information to principal investigators and other researchers. Updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed.
4. Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for research department.
5. Orders laboratory and/or other supplies as directed by senior research staff.
6. As needed, may coordinate the work of laboratory technicians and assistants to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results.
7. Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

The Medical Research Council (MRC) has recently funded a Four-year, £1.5M cohort study, that is studying the impact of e-cigarettes on immune and epithelial cells within the lungs of smokers trying to quit using e-cigarettes. 

Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death worldwide, and a risk factor for many diseases. With an ageing population, the profound economic and health burden of smoking-related disease continues to increase. E-cigarettes are an effective, NICE recommended smoking cessation tool yet the long-term effects of vaping remain uncertain. Our short-term exposure studies have shown the deleterious effects of e-cigarette exposure on innate immune cell function (neutrophils, alveolar macrophages), suggesting potential harm from chronic exposure. 

This project aims to address this knowledge gap by recruiting a cohort of healthy smokers aiming to quit smoking using e-cigarettes, to provide critical data needed to determine safety and to inform personal choice, public debate, and policy. This longitudinal cohort study will evaluate accumulation of toxins in the airways, changes in epithelial and innate immune cell functions during smoking cessation, by combining a multi-omic approach with whole-cell effector functions and characterise changes in the respiratory microbiome. 

This post will require the Research Fellow to work closely with clinical scientists to deliver this cohort study within the laboratory of Dr Aaron Scott. The Research Fellow will contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within this research project. 

Role Summary

• Work within specified research grants and projects, specifically an ongoing research project that is investigating how immune cells are change after smoking cessation and how they are affected by continued exposure to e-cigarettes.
• Operate within area of specialism, specifically supporting the work undertaken by Dr Scott that is investigating the impact of the exposome (smoke, e-cigarette vapour, pollution) on respiratory immune health.
• Integrate with clinical team to deliver a patient cohort study, including appropriate record keeping. 
• Analyse and interpret research findings and results. 
• Contribute to public understanding of the discipline.

The University of Houston College of Pharmacy invites qualified applicants to apply for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant Professor in the Prescription Drug Misuse Education and Research (PREMIER) Center. We are seeking outstanding individuals with a solid track interest in scholarship and expertise in the fields of substance use disorders, prescription drug misuse, pain management, or clinical research. The successful candidate will be involved in increasing scholarship productivity within the Center, increasing the national recognition of the College, and building a research enterprise that fits within the mission of the Center.

The mission of the PREMIER Center, founded in December 2018, is to improve patient outcomes by providing education on safe and effective controlled substance prescription use and to serve as a catalyst for collaborative research efforts optimizing pharmacotherapy to manage pain and substance use disorders. It is the only research center with this focus housed in a college of pharmacy in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center (TMC).

The position is fully funded by the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A competitive start up package will be provided. We are looking for talented personnel who will strengthen and provide synergies with our current areas of research related to prevention, treatment, and harm reduction related to the mission of the PREMIER Center. The Department of Psychology and Human Services at Upper Iowa University invites applicants for a tenure track position starting January 2026 at the Fayette campus. We are seeking candidates able to teach a wide range of Psychology and Human Services courses including core courses for the Psychology major in addition to service, skilled, and applied courses such as Counseling Skills, Developmental Psychology, and Substance Abuse.

The standard teaching load is four courses per semester in a 2-2, eight-week session schedule. The majority of the course load includes a combination of face-to-face and online courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department of Psychology and Human Services at Upper Iowa University offers an undergraduate degree in Human Services as well as an undergraduate and graduate degree in Psychology. In addition, the department partners closely with the Master of Science in Counseling program. Faculty in this position have a primary responsibility for teaching in support of both the undergraduate majors, but could have the opportunity to teach in the Masters of Psychology and the Master of Sciences in Counseling program as needed.

IMHPR scientists conduct collaborative research on communities, populations, health systems and global health, and develop and evaluate prevention and intervention initiatives to reduce mental health and substance use challenges. Position Description

Shkaabe Makwa and the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research (IMHPR) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking four (4) part-time, contract (4 months) Research Associate 1.  These individuals will support a research project funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the First Nations Wellness Initiative, which involves the collection of local data and the development of community wellness strategies using Participatory Action Research in First Nations communities. The research program actively engages all members of the community, including consumers/patients, families and informal caregivers, service providers and community leaders and Elders. The Research Associate will support the work collaboratively as part of a team of researchers to implement community-based research, involving both quantitative and qualitative research methods.

These positions are specific to Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, where the Research Associate’s will report to the Manager of the First Nations Wellness Initiative. The primary responsibilities of the Research Associates include assisting with qualitative and quantitative data collection activities such as, a community wide survey, interviews with people with lived and living experiences, and focus groups with service providers.  The Research Associates will assist with administrative tasks and the preparation of data collection materials, as well as materials used in knowledge sharing activities. The Research Associates will be recruiting and screening eligible study participants; obtaining informed consent; assisting participants with the use of electronic tablets to complete a survey, and other research tasks as needed. Strict adherence to protocols for safety and the protection of data privacy and confidentiality are required. The Research Associates will be working as a team with the support of the Research Coordinators in community, as well as the wider CAMH research team. These part-time positions will have varying hours (maximum of 15 hours per week) for four months with the possibility of an extension. Work outdoors during evening and weekend hours are required. This position will be based in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory and may involve travel within Ontario.
