Substance Use Disorder Treatment

This refers to a structured program or range of services designed to help individuals reduce or stop alcohol and/or drug use, manage related physical and mental health challenges, and achieve improved functioning in daily life. Treatment may include medications, counselling, behavioural therapies, and supportive social or medical services.

This can also involve substitution or maintenance therapy, where a medically supervised substitute drug (such as an agonist or antagonist) is prescribed to reduce or eliminate the use of a harmful substance. The goal is to minimise health risks (e.g., infections from needle sharing), reduce illegal drug use, and promote long-term recovery and stability.
