ISSUP Nigeria joined the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the MTN Foundation, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and other partners in commemorating the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking under the theme, "World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, Challenges, and Innovative Responses."
The event brought together stakeholders from across the country to raise public awareness about substance use prevention, promote healthy lifestyles, reduce stigma , and encourage collective action to address the growing challenges associated with drug use and illicit trafficking.
As part of the commemoration, members of the ISSUP Nigeria FCT Chapter and the ISSUP Lagos State Branch actively participated in the advocacy walk and awareness activities. The Lagos State Branch was represented by its State Coordinator, Executive Committee members, and dedicated members, demonstrating the Chapter's commitment to advancing evidence-based prevention and community engagement.
The advocacy walk concluded with an interactive drug awareness session, where participants engaged in discussions on substance use prevention, treatment , recovery , and innovative approaches to addressing substance use disorders. The programme also highlighted the importance of collaboration among government agencies, civil society, healthcare professionals, educators, and communities in promoting public health and preventing substance use.
