On 21 November 2025, a national dialogue platform on the development of Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT) was held in Astana as part of the country’s Working Group on OAT development.
The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Committee for National Security, and the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Mental Health. International expertise was provided by professors from Yale University (USA), including Frederick Altice and Lynn E. Madden.
Discussions focused on intersectoral collaboration, international evidence and best practices in OAT development, and the role of OAT programmes in reducing social and public security risks.
As the host organisation of ISSUP Kazakhstan, the Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for Mental Health continues to promote evidence-based and internationally aligned approaches to substance use policy and practice, while strengthening dialogue among the health, public safety, and justice sectors.
