Strengthening Prevention Through Parental Engagement – Addressing Vape and E-Cigarette Risks Among Adolescents

On 24 January 2026, our Deputy Director, Dr Mohd Nazri, together with partners from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), National Anti Drugs Agency (NADA) Sabah, Hospital UMS, PERDESA, PEMADAM, and ISSUP Malaysia Chapter, supported Sekolah Menengah Lok Yuk, Kota Kinabalu in conducting a Parental Engagement Program on the dangers of vape and electronic cigarettes.

The increasing use of synthetic vaping products among adolescents is a serious health and disciplinary concern. Prevention must begin early — and it must involve parents.

This program brought together parents, selected students, teachers, and school leaders to:

• Increase awareness of addiction and health risks linked to vaping
• Strengthen parenting roles in early prevention and discipline
• Provide targeted intervention for identified students
• Enhance collaboration between schools and health/prevention agencies

We are proud to see our second-line leadership actively advancing prevention work on the ground. Sustainable systems are built when schools, families, and multi-agency partners work together.

Prevention is not a one-off talk.
It is a coordinated ecosystem.

Step by step.
School by school.
Community by community.
