The Mental Health Consortium, participates in the Validation Meeting for Technical Recommendations organised by the Kenya Psychiatric Association

ISSUP Kenya, as part of the Mental Health Consortium, participated in the Validation Meeting for Technical Recommendations, organized by the Kenya Psychiatric Association (KPA) on 27th March 2026, in Nairobi, Kenya. This follows ISSUP Kenya's involvement two weeks ago in the Mental Health Stakeholders’ Proposal Development and Writing Process.

The consortium, including partners such as the Ministry of Health, Mathari National Teaching and Referral Mental Hospital, Addiction Prevention and Rehabilitation Society of Kenya (APRAK), Kenya Counsellors and Psychologists Association (KCPA), mental health institutions, civil society organizations, and rehabilitation centers, contributed to refining technical recommendations for the Social Health Authority (SHA) Mental Health Benefits Package. These recommendations will be submitted to the Health Benefits and Tariffs Advisory Panel (HBTAP) to ensure that mental health and substance use services are well-represented, accessible, and sustainably financed under Kenya’s new national health scheme.

ISSUP Kenya’s participation underscores its commitment to evidence-based practices, supporting its members to influence policy and service delivery, and fostering collaboration across government, professional associations, civil society, and rehabilitation partners. By contributing through the Mental Health Consortium, we help ensure that the voices of professionals and communities remain central to Kenya’s evolving mental health system. ISSUP Kenya was represented by Nkatha Mwenda PR & Media Lead and Janemy Obiny ISSUP Kenya Youth Leader.
