Addictus Summer School Returns in the Heart of Verona, Italy

The Addictus Summer School Returns: Three Intensive Days of Clinical Training on Addiction, in the Heart of Verona on 17–18–19 September 2026 · Limited enrollment · ECM-accredited

We are delighted to announce that registrations are now open for the 5th edition of the Addictus Summer School, taking place in Verona from 17 to 19 September 2026.

Please note that the Summer School will be held in Italian only.

Building on the success of last year's edition — and responding to requests received especially from younger professionals in the field — we have confirmed a format designed for those working on the front lines: three full days, intentionally compact to make leave from work manageable and to maximise learning outcomes.

Why a Summer School?

A growing demand for foundational training in Addiction Medicine has been reported from multiple sources. Requests come from staff recently hired at Addiction Treatment Centers (Servizi per le Dipendenze – SerD) — spanning various professions including physicians, psychologists, nurses, and educators — during a period of significant generational turnover. But the interest extends beyond the medical field too, as many professionals from diverse disciplines recognise that the world of addiction is continuously evolving.

Our experience also shows that many university students are keenly interested in these topics. Yet higher education institutions often struggle to keep pace with these training demands; and when they do respond (through master's programmes or specialisation courses), the resources and time commitments required are substantial.

This unmet need has once again been addressed by the Addiction Medicine Unit of the Integrated University Hospital of Verona and CLAD Onlus, with the patronage of public bodies and scientific societies in the sector, through this 5th Addictus Summer School.

Drawing on our extensive experience in professional education, we felt that an extended weekend residential format — modelled on Anglo-Saxon-style summer schools — could be highly appealing: ECM-accredited, low-cost, limited enrollment, highly interactive with faculty, and focused on comprehensive, 360° training on the most common pathological and behavioural addictions, with integrated practical application activities. Naturally, we guarantee high-calibre speakers and promote interaction between faculty and learners as much as possible outside formal presentation times.

Furthermore, the extensive scientific and popular-publishing output of the two scientific directors, Prof. Fabio Lugoboni and Rebecca Casari, will enrich the week's content with supplementary teaching materials for deeper study.

Why attend?

The Summer School was created to fill a gap: a dedicated space for hands-on clinical experience across the main areas of pathological addictions — practical, case-based content that rarely finds room in large society congresses.

And it's not just theory: clinical cases will be presented not only by speakers but also by participants themselves, turning the event into a living laboratory where you can discuss real situations with peers and supervisors in an atmosphere of genuine exchange.

Accommodation in Verona — A Shared Experience

To support those with fewer resources, we are once again offering bed spaces at no additional cost at the historic hermitage of San Rocchetto. The accommodation is spartan: dormitory-style rooms of 3 to 8 beds with shared facilities — but for those with the right spirit, it can become a unique experience of camaraderie with colleagues from across Italy.

The hermitage is reached via a short up hill walk of approximately 10 minutes from the Summer School venue — itself housed in a stunning 14th-century monastic residence, easily accessible by car or public transport.

⚠️ Please note: the path to San Rocchetto is not suitable for individuals with mobility impairments or anyone unable to manage a brief uphill walk.
