Adaptation of the Multidimensional Inventory of Recovery Capital (MIRC) to the Czech Environment

INTRODUCTION: While international attention toward addiction recovery research is growing, in the Czech environment there is still a lack of research data and tools for measuring this concept. The primary objective of the research project was therefore to adapt and validate the Multidimensional Inventory of Recovery Capital (MIRC) for the Czech population.

METHODS: The study included 111 respondents recovering from alcohol addiction who met the original inclusion criteria. An interactive web application was created for data collection, which continues to be used in practice by recovery coaches and individuals in recovery.

RESULTS: Psychometric evaluation confirmed strong internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = .92 ; McDonald’s ω = .92) and significant concurrent validity, with the total recovery capital score showing a strong positive correlation with quality of life, as measured by the WHOQOL-BREF (r = .83). Further analyses supported the MIRC as an overall measure of recovery capital, while indicating limited distinctiveness between the social, human, and cultural capital domains.

CONCLUSIONS: The Czech adaptation of the MIRC provides a promising instrument for measuring recovery capital. This method introduces an effective framework that can be further integrated into Czech addiction science and recoveryoriented practice. Its practical application may support individualized treatment planning, recovery coaching, and routine outcome monitoring, as well as the evaluation of recovery services.
